This design is not only aware of all the features that make a book a book, it’s also aware of what makes a book work to convey feelings or resemble architectonic characteristics. The format is unusually narrow, paying homage to the inside of the actual house, its tight corridors and outside facade of old Amsterdam architecture. It is also having many playful elements. The narrow format mimics a door, and to see inside one must unfold the pages. These pages also mimic the idea of a book opening itself, and like a museum catalogue, it unfolds extra information and works as an extension of the Anne Frank Museum after a visit. The claustrophobic atmosphere in the typesetting and size reassembles the right compliance of the events the content talks about. These elements make the catalogue a valuable souvenir, with which visitors of the Anne Frank Huis can delve deeper into the archive and become more aware of the multiple information layers with every turn of the page. The ability to unfold the pages is also what makes this book exciting to read through.
