‘EXPORT>IMPORT’ tells the story of art travelling back and forth between Amsterdam and Japan during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kept tight and compact, the book is easily transportable, and the cover(s) allude(s) to different shipping labels on each side, one form each destination.
Opening the book on the Amsterdam side, page for page you follow the story of managing and planning a project to get it to Japan; most obviously through images which add up to show the work set up in a flipbook-like fashion. The reader “travels” through the book, front to back, Amsterdam to Tokyo. When flipping back in reverse, the reverse side of the story is told, making the interaction of the book itself the journey.
On each page, email conversations are printed for a closer reading, using the online communication during the pandemic as the storytelling itself. A practical, efficient exhibition that is ready for you to take, right in your pocket, wherever you go next.
