Between happy children’s books in bright colours we found this beautiful yet more quiet publication titled Always Close by. Mark Janssen created a narrative using words and drawing about loss, a subject we imagined being complex to interact with children. We appreciated how special and serious the book looked, without forgetting its audience. Janssen’s drawings were nicely printed in this big publication on paper that came as close to the original work as possible with gold ink giving them a little sparkle, a cover that is just honest and the typography letting the words breathe.
