Mere 36 pages and yet a noble story told. That is what design can and should do. If anyone ever asks me whether it is possible to convey a story through paper choices – Zilverbeek is my answer.
Every spread here is planned. Just a quick flip-through already makes you curious about the whole story. The book’s pleasant, non-distracting, well-set typography is matched with design choices that connect to it – like printing some of the pictures as negatives (it is a tale of silver recovered from photographic film factory’s waste!). Accurate paper choices and print quality allow for the story to develop almost on its own, using only images. Moreover, insertion of a newspaper, telling about the events, not only unfolds into a beautiful poster, but also transports the reader into another time frame fitting the story.
