A museum catalogue designed in the format of a low quality economic book in a pocket size, that is actually good! Within approximately 300 submissions, we encountered many luxury museum catalogues which look as great as other luxury books. Following rules for the catalogue design, most of them have a large format and similar page layouts and are printed in excellent quality. However, we found this little book unique. When you open it you will find paintings with small notes from the artists. The large, beautiful typography has a specific tone, leaving plenty of white space on the rough paper. It recalls a children’s storytelling book.
We admit that it does not stay open easily, with 3 mm of glue on the spine. The printing quality is awful! Still, this little pretty book makes some of the student jury members smile. After all, we like the concept of this publication as an exhibition catalogue and how it is designed within the limitation of the quality.
